The vague feeling of a quasi bankruptcy of the contemporary art, hardly offset by the flood of impressionism, makes re-emerge among many of us the need to go back to an art able to cause an immediate aesthetic emotion by the only force of its formal perfection.
The great forgotten artists of the past were often condemned only as representatives of the upper middle-class and often without a single and sincere look at their works. Up to a very recent time it was common to hear snigger when evocating Bouguereau, however he was one of the greatest artists of the 19th century.
I have tried to present some of their works, bought here and there as the years went by. Though it is a very modest collection, all the artworks presented here are shown for the first time on internet. On the left pane you can find a link leading to the most important sites relating to these artists.
